Nellis Wash Wilderness Area, about 10 minutes away, is over 16,000 acres of varied terrain and abundant desert wildlife. Rock hounding and discovering historic mining remnants add to the adventure of backpacking, camping, climbing, and unforgettable stargazing.
1,400,000 acres of National Preserve
Just one hour west in neighboring California, is Mojave National Preserve, spanning 1.4 million acres of woodland, rugged mountains, canyons and the natural habitats for wildlife from mountain lion to tortoise. Four wheelers and dirt bikers love this area with over a thousand miles of unpaved roads, and camping options are essentially limitless. The highest point, at nearly 8,000 ft., features white fir while Kelso Dunes are sand mounds known for making "singing" sounds and Cima Dome is a famed granite mass covered with Joshua trees.
